No longer was able to connect with the PC due to a faulty Micro USB port on the keyboard itself. This repair needed either the port to be replaced or the cable connected directly to the keyboard circuit board.
The Micro USB port was damaged, possibly due to being inserted incorrectly. I was hoping to find a replacement part to make it exactly like new, but unfortunately Cooler Master did not provide such parts and no luck by online sellers. The next option was to remove the female Micro USB port and solder on a new one. After dismantling it this was not possible because the port was within a moulded plastic form.
The best option from this point would have been to cut the mold and try to fit a new female Micro USB port, but due to the way the port protruding out of the mold, it may not have held properly once done, even with glue. Best bet was to use another long USB cable I had lying around, connecting directly to the circuit board of the keyboard. The usefulness of disconnecting the keyboard from the back is not really necessary so it was OK to do.
